Flagship Project
The Civic Building Restoration
Our centerpiece project: the full restoration of a historic civic building in downtown Monessen — returning it to active community use after decades of neglect.

Site Assessment & Planning
Comprehensive structural assessment, architectural review, and project planning completed in partnership with licensed engineers and preservation specialists.
Spring 2022
Foundation & Structural Repairs
Foundation stabilization, load-bearing wall reinforcement, and critical structural repairs completed. The building is now structurally sound.
Fall 2023
Exterior Masonry & Roofing
Historic brick facade repointed and restored. New roof installed with period-appropriate materials. Exterior windows replaced with historically accurate reproductions.
Spring 2024
Electrical & Plumbing Systems
Full electrical rewiring and modern plumbing installation currently underway. Expected completion by end of year.
In Progress
Interior Restoration
Interior plaster, flooring, millwork, and finish work. Historic details will be preserved and restored wherever possible.
2025
Grand Opening
The restored building will open as a community hub — hosting events, meetings, educational programs, and local gatherings.

The civic building is our flagship, but MRVGPA's work extends across the community — from neighborhood beautification to small business support.
Neighborhood Beautification
ActiveCoordinating volunteer-led cleanup days, tree planting, and public space improvements across Monessen's residential neighborhoods. Over 200 volunteers have participated since 2019.
Small Business Support
ActiveConnecting Mon Valley entrepreneurs with resources, mentorship, and micro-grant opportunities to help new and existing businesses take root in Monessen.
Historic Preservation Registry
OngoingDocumenting and advocating for the preservation of Monessen's historic architecture — working with state and local agencies to protect the built heritage of the Mon Valley.
