About Us
A Community Rebuilding Itself.
The Monessen Reconstruction Venture Group Property Association (MRVGPA) is a resident-led nonprofit dedicated to restoring the historic buildings and civic life of Monessen, Pennsylvania.
Our Story
Why We Started
Monessen was built on steel — a Mon Valley town that thrived for generations before the mills closed and much of downtown fell into disrepair. Like many former industrial towns, Monessen was left with beautiful, historic buildings that no single owner could afford to save.
MRVGPA was formed by a group of residents who refused to watch that history disappear. We organized as a property association with one clear purpose: acquire, stabilize, and restore the buildings at the heart of our community, and put them back into active civic use.
What began as a conversation among neighbors has grown into a sustained, multi-year renovation effort — backed by volunteers, local businesses, and residents who believe Monessen's best days are still ahead.
Our Mission
Restore the Buildings. Rebuild the Community.
We believe that a town's historic architecture is worth saving — not as a museum piece, but as living, working space the community can use. Our mission is to restore Monessen's civic buildings, support the small businesses and neighbors who call this town home, and create programs that give the next generation a reason to stay and invest here.
Preservation
We restore historic structures using materials and methods that honor their original character.
Community-Led
Every decision is made by and for Monessen residents — this is resident-driven revitalization.
Transparency
We operate as a nonprofit property association, and every dollar raised goes directly toward our mission.
Long-Term Investment
We're not chasing quick wins — we're building something that will serve Monessen for generations.
How We're Organized
A Resident-Run Property Association
MRVGPA is governed by a volunteer board of Monessen residents and stakeholders who oversee our renovation projects, community initiatives, and finances. Board meetings are open, and we welcome new members who want to contribute their time and expertise to the mission.
